Crew shot...

This is the siding crew for '09-'10 summer season at the South Pole. I am standing on the far right. We are on top of the new elevated station and in the background you can see a C-130 getting ready to taxi.

Dome Down

Here is the site of where the Dome stood. In the back under the sun you can see the last section of the Dome. At the time of the photo just a few days ago they were preparing to take that section down. Once everything is cleaned up they will fill the hole with snow where the Dome once stood. Two of the workers that have been working on the Dome deconstruction all season.

This is another worker from the Dome deconstructoin crew.

Sun Dog

This is one of our famous "sun dogs" that we get at the South Pole. This occurs when the sun reflects off snow crystals flying through the sky. This one is an extra special sight to see because of the double rings and also the ring that parallels the horizon. We don't get to see these elaborate ones too often! I had a visit from a my friend "Flat Luke". He is hanging out with me at the U.S. Post Office before he started he journey home. For extra activities I work in the United States Post Office as an official Postal Clerk at the most southern post office in the world! Don't worry, we still have lines to wait in, especially at the end of the season.

Our small crew of three finishing up on our latest project. We worked "nights" for two weeks. If you will notice that it is still sunny during the night time. It is about 4 a.m. in this photo. I haven't seen nightfall since I left Christchurch, New Zealand in early November. The peacefulness of a dark night with stars is something I really miss being down here during "Summer".

Merry Christmas!

Deconstruction of the Dome. The Dome has been an icon of the South Pole since it was built in the early 1970's. Now that it is being disassembled, it has been replaced by the elevated station.

Merry Christmas from the South Pole!

Merry Christmas again!

Wine server at Thanksgiving.
Probably as much fun as eating Thanksgiving dinner.
